You can leave the kickdown cable totally disconnected. I have done it on both a 350 and 700r4 and i just adjusted the kickdown cables until i got the shiftpoints that felt right at rpms that felt right. The detent cable at the parts store matches the one on the car for the 77 th350 transmission.
